Afghan “Behind What(?) Scenes” Feature Doc

February 24th, 2009  |  Published in Documentary, News

We’re working away on the first full rough-cut of the our Feature Doc. A first draft of the VO is half way through and is getting more complicated by the minute.

After having indoctrinated ourselves to see this film only in the light in which various TV channels are interested to look at it, for them to be able to fit it0 into various slots, strands and other individual “int’l standard” formats, we’re quite confused. Maybe not as confused as we were while actually rummaging through Afghanistan filming it, but almost. It’s quite exciting to create this back-dated diary of events and to figure out the true connection between various decision we made during the trips to this magic land and also weave in the stories that happened behind the camera, involving, corruption, bribes, imprisonments and shoot-outs with Afghan bandits.

The main aim with the first draft of the film is to bring presenter/writer Tahir Shah into the workflow. As his role here will change from presenter to main character with an emotional arch, we’re very much interested in bringing him on the structuring of the story and combine our dramaturgical needs with his personal views of what he would like to communicate with his journey that we have filmed.

A graphic animation style for maps and 3d representation of cave complexes are also being developed, and hopefully will bring with them new possibilities for us to weave this multi-tiered story.

We have interesting process ahead of us indeed.

We’re also very much looking forward to the reactions on German ZDF’s TV version of this film, which will sceen this coming May 1st.

More updates on this soon!
